KATE KATO | Paper Artist
I'm a paper artist creating intricate, life-sized sculptures of plants, flowers and insects from reclaimed and recycled papers. I curate collections and installations which aim to document different species and our experiences of them and the natural world. I've been building my paper sculptures since 2014 when I moved to the Welsh Borders and use a range of different techniques including paper cutting, carving, wire work and sometimes embroidery to bring the sculptures to life. I have created all kinds of displays from large installations for commercial projects to individual frames privately commissioned for a special occasion. I also run workshops, teaching others how to create with paper and have developed an online course too.
COMMISSIONS
Commissions are a big part of what I do. I love listening to the stories behind your ideas and turning them into displays that are completely unique and personal to you. I am happy to discuss commissions of any size, from a single favourite species to a frame filled with different kinds of flora and fauna.
